How long does a container of Peanut Butter last for that's been opened?

What is the shelf life of an open jar of JIF creamy Peanut Butter? At some point, should you throw out the peanut butter? Will peanut butter go bad sitting in your cupboard?

Peanut butter lasts for months even at room temperature. If you do not finish off the jar of peanut butter within 3 months, it is better to store it in the refrigerator.
