What is the right age to neuter or spay a cat?

How many weeks or months old should a cat be before it can get neutered or spayed? Is it dangerous to do while it is a few weeks old or an adult?

For male cats, an appropriate age to neuter one would be when it is about eight weeks old and weighs at least two pounds. For female cats, it is advisable to spay them when they are at least eight weeks old.
