How-to Quickly Change an Email Messages Font Size Using A Mouse Wheel

Use this tip to speed up productivity while using your computer.
by Updated January 29, 2009

If you’ve ever encountered an email message or web page that had really small text and wanted a quick way to make the print size larger, then this tip will come in handy.  The one thing you will need is a computer mouse with a mouse wheel.

To quickly change the font size while reading an email message or while viewing a web page, hold down the Ctrl key on your keyboard and turn the wheel in the middle of your mouse.  If you push the wheel forward (away from you) the text size will get larger, if you turn the wheel towards you the text size will get smaller.

This technique will work while viewing email messages in programs such as Outlook Express, Microsoft Outlook or while viewing web pages with browsers such as Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox.  If you do this while using Microsoft Word, the page you are working on will zoom in or out.

Keep in mind that you may run across some email messages and web pages which prevent the text size from being changed using the mouse wheel due to their use of Cascading Style Sheets also known as CSS.
