Is it possible to open up a planes emergency door mid flight?

Can you open up an emergency door on a plane in mid flight or are they locked down?

It depends on some factors – the altitude and the size of the aircraft. Some emergency procedures do allow large planes to open their emergency doors mid flight only if they are quite low in altitude.

High altitude changes the pressure in the cabin and can disintegrate the entire aircraft altogether. Lighter aircraft also have their norms on emergency procedures.
